Vaccine Network for Disease Control identified over 400 out-of-school adolescent girls and young women in ten communities in the Federal Capital Territory, and five communities in Delta state, who were sensitized on the importance of acquiring skills and engaging in lucrative economic activities.
These young girls and women were empowered, through the establishment of young girl- and young women groups to provide peer-to-peer support for one another. We also strengthened community-level adolescent programs to educate adolescent girls and boys, and mobilize communities for change to keep these adolescents free and safe from violence. Lastly, we established social and financial savings groups, and provided financial management skills for these adolescent girls and young women using simple technology, supporting them with start-up kits/funds.
