The Adopt-a-PHC Initiative is a public-private resource mobilization and accountability initiative to support the government in providing essential primary health services to communities in Nigeria. It was tested in the FCT as the outcome of a 2021 USAID-IHP-supported coalition project. The Vaccine Network for Disease Control played a key role with other non-governmental organizations in the assessment of PHCs, which revealed major deficits in electricity and water supply, Infrastructural integrity, human resources, security measures, etc. To guide the micro-adoption processes in the capital as well as across all the states of Nigeria, we created and published a step-by-step practical guide to aid a facility adoption process. We also led the mobilization of philanthropic investments through women-led organizations eager to improve healthcare quality, as well as the distribution of resources mobilized for the rehabilitation and revitalization of six primary healthcare facilities across FCT area councils.
